What is going on with this weather? One night I’m sleeping in a sweatshirt; the next day I’m wearing flip flops! I must however acknowledge for the second time this year Frank Wallmeyer’s bug scraper/shoe scraper/ice scraper (one of the dozen I’ve acquired over the past 8 years) having been crucial in order to get to work Wednesday morning. Last week we heard from local real estate mogul Toney Sleiman about his outlook for the market, as well as the various projects we can expect to see from his company in the near future. Mr. Sleiman drew a crowd of 70 and he hinted at new plans being underway for a completely private re-design of the Jacksonville Landing without reliance on public funds. Also, when he heard Walter Smith announce our upcoming Tallahassee trip Feb 16th (Details in the newsletter) he offered to try and convince the governor to meet with us if he’s in town.
This week marks our first event outside the weekly meeting with our monthly golf outing at North Hampton on Friday. I’m getting excited to join Nico and the group just typing now, and the weather looks to be perfect! (Assuming they get this one right) Our illustrious Program Chairperson Penny Kievet has secured Rena Coughlin, CEO of Non-profit Center of NE FL as our speaker this week. Amongst her many accomplishments, it’s worth noting Mrs. Coughlin served as the Co-Chair of Mayor Curry’s transition committee last year. Also next week we’ll begin Super Bowl week in the zone with our 2016 Kickoff Reception at the River Club on Tuesday for happy hour. It’s not a ticketed event, simply an opportunity to gather with other members for a great time with light hors d’oeuvres and River Club “member” pricing (ex. Jameson Irish whiskey- approx. $4). We have room for about 50 people so RSVP to ME below ASAP.
***We’re relocating for 1 week on February 10th, our luncheon will be downtown at the Double Tree Hotel (Former Crown Plaza) due to maintenance in the banquet rooms at San Jose.***
