This is one of the best weeks of the year in North East Florida! A week where people from all over the world watch The Players on television or travel thousands of miles to see it here in person. Last week Vice Chairman Adam Campbell came out and shared with us some sneak peeks at what’s new this year, and some helpful tips to make our time there more enjoyable. Last year The Players awarded over $ 8 million to 300 local charities and hopes to top that once again this year. To quote Adam, even if you don’t usually watch golf “there’s something for everyone” at The Players. We had fantastic door prizes during our meeting, including some Benefactor tickets donated by new member Advanced Furniture Solutions that fetched a nice donation. When Adam saw the interest, he capped off his presentation asking Past President Jepp Walter to join him at the front to auction off 2 Benefactor tickets for Saturday, a $500 value!
Earlier in the week you should have seen an email blast announcing the passing of long-time member Jordan Ansbacher. Jordan joined the club in 1983 in his Commercial Real Estate business and maintained his membership until his passing at the age of 88. He was a Veteran of 2 foreign wars, University of Florida Alum, small business owner, devoted family man and husband of 63 years! Jordan supported many organizations outside of SBMC; Boy Scouts of America, Youth Crisis Center, and Jacksonville Jewish Center to name just a few. His motto, as he was often heard saying, was “I am the luckiest man in the world!”
In continuing our plan this year to bring as many local leaders from the top of organizations and government, this week Chief Judge Mark Mahon will address us just a day before we head out to work the concessions at The Players. Chief Judge Mahon heads our new County Courthouse downtown and is a great speaker so please be sure and come out to the meeting. Then just 2 weeks from tomorrow is our annual YAP Charity Golf Classic at San Jose. Nico Hogeveen (who is not Scottish) and his committee have been working diligently for months to put together a banner year for our scholarship program. We still need players, so please sign up on our website today!
